Author Blog Challenge – And the WINNER is…

OK, it’s the day you’ve all been waiting for. We’re about to announce the WINNER of the inaugural Author Blog Challenge. Speaking of inaugural events, did you know that it is incorrect to name or describe something as the First Annual XYZ Event? It doesn’t become annual until there have been at least 2 consecutive events. Learned that little tidbit in journalism school and just thought I’d pass it along.

BEFORE we get to the winner, however, I’m going to do like any good awards program and summarize some of the secondary facts (and winners) first.

It was a most excellent outing for a novice blog challenge host. My goal was 100 participants and we sure did come close! I couldn’t be prouder of the way things turned out.

We had:

  • 90 registered participants
  • 97 members of the ABC Facebook group
  • 22 people who completed the Author Blog Challenge, posting all 28 days
  • 23 people who signed up but didn’t post AT ALL
  • 29 folks who posted fewer than 50 percent of the days

Our participants joined us from no fewer than 5 countries (Australia, Canada, South Africa, United Kingdom, and United States) and 9 US states (Arizona, California, Connecticut, Georgia, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, Utah, District Of Columbia). If you’re from someplace other than those listed here, you missed our conversation about “Where in the World Are YOU?” Please e-mail me and I’ll add your location to the Author Blog Challenge map!

We also had a handful of books published during the Challenge! HUGE CONGRATS to those who finally saw their books in print during these last 28 days. I won’t name names because I’m not sure I have all of them and I don’t want anyone to feel left out!

Here’s the list of the 22 people who completed the Author Blog Challenge! 3 VERY LOUD cheers to each of you!

Winner for Day 28 Jenni Parry. She wins a PDF copy of MY book, 1,001 Real-Life Questions for Women.

For a list of all 28 days’ winners, please visit the WINNERS page. If you haven’t yet claimed your gift, please e-mail me.

The BEST COMMENTER award goes to Jo Michaels. Absolutely had to acknowledge Jo for her outstanding support of all the Author Blog Challenge participants! Jo wins a copy of my Empowering Women Writers 52-Week Project Tracker.

The EARLIEST POSTER award is shared by Melissa Khalinsky who started strong (and finished first) and Alexander Cherry, who came from behind to virtually tie with Melissa as being the first to post his links to the Facebook group every day. They each win a copy of Marcie Brock’s Little Book of Writing Prompts.

And now, the moment you’ve all been waiting for. The winner was drawn using the random number generator at Random.org from the 21 participants on the list above (excluding Marice Brock, of course). The overall winner of the inaugural Author Blog Challenge is ALANA MAUTONE. CONGRATULATIONS!!!

Alana wins copies of all the daily giveaways as well as a $50 gift certificate to the bookstore of her choice.

Thanks to everyone for participating. Please keep talking up the Challenge so we can have 200+ participants for the Winter Author Blog Challenge! Updates to come soon…

Much love –

Laura & Marcie
